Dr. Erica Jowett Hirst is a Clinical Behavior Analyst who earned her doctorate in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2014 and her master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis in 2008 and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2006 from the Florida Institute of Technology. Dr. Jowett Hirst has experience using the science of behavior analysis to improve the lives of individuals across the life span.
Dr. Jowett Hirst uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help people live their best life. ACT is an evidence-based therapy for addressing issues that are traditionally associated with mental health disorders (e.g., problematic patterns of thinking, compulsive behavior, emotional responding, etc.). ACT is an active and engaging form of therapy that focuses on 1) increasing attention to present-moment experiences (i.e., mindfulness), 2) developing healthy ways to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings, and 3) engaging in values-driven action. If you’re feeling stuck and ready to try something new, then ACT is for YOU!
Dr. Jowett Hirst also has experience helping individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve their full potential using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is an evidence-based therapy for increasing adaptive skills such as communication, social skills, and independence with daily living, and decreasing behaviors that get in the way of living a meaningful life. If you are a parent or a person with a disability who is looking to improve your or your child’s quality of life, ABA is for YOU!
